fas’ kine Maui

Some days, you just know, will be unforgettable. Today was one of those days.

The sacrifice of waking up at 12:30am, and checking out of our hotel by 1am was minimal when I look back at what I gained.

To start the day off, I saw some fuzziness in the sky amongst the piercing stars which I thought was clouds. I rubbed my eyes, realizing that I was staring at the Milky Way. Auto-grab camera.

We began the drive to Haleakala National Park. I was giddy with excitement, knowing that as we got to higher elevations I’d get even better pictures of the Milky Way. I’m wrong most of the time, but this time I was right.

This was BY FAR, the most vivid I have seen the detail of the Milky Way. It was also eerie, being outside of the car by myself and hearing nothing. It was pitch black, and I could hear the wind howling.

I thought this was hilarious. Most other times when I take pictures in front of the National Park entrance signs it is during daylight. This was taken around 2:49AM.

The goal?

To see the sun rising above the clouds in Haleakala (House of the Sun)

and then, she came…

Had to get one of us.

The other views from atop of Haleakala, naturally, were gorgeous.

Okay, and then..much later in the morning (so at like 9am), we snapped a picture of us in front of the sign, for good measure

The day was just getting started. We headed to see Iao Needle

We spent the rest of the day cruising, and ended the day seeing this gem
